My purpose for this page is to announce the reason for sharing historical research related to the Indian Valley (Pennsylvania). After researching and writing the narrative of the passengers from Ireland who sailed upon the ship, Faithful Steward, in 1785, I found myself immersed in history, in particular the Revolutionary War period. Some of the passengers had relatives who migrated years before and joined the Patriot cause, freedom from rule by a king. After you read my upcoming book, which I hope you consider, you will understand the importance of the Scots-Irish who migrated from the province of Ulster, many of which settled in Philadelphia and surrounding Pennsylvania, and their importance in local history through involvement in the War of Independence. Additionally, I plan to explore the historical people, places, and events, including the Lenape (La-nah-pay) which shaped the history of the Indian Valley from which we draw our name. It’s a way of respecting and paying homage to the Lenape. I’d like this page to be interactive – meaning, you the reader may have something of value to share. Best wishes with your documentary for sure. In one of my chapters of my new novel about the ship Faithful Steward and it’s passengers, I cover some background about William and his son, John Penn, and also William’s brother-in-law, John Logan. Love the fact that someone is taking the time to record the significant history of the Indian Valley! I am very much interested in anything you have to write along with other historians contacting you. I have a great interest in learning about the history of this area and the settlement of the West. What courage and endurance these people had! Finding your post just made my day! Looking forward to reading more and in getting a copy of your book!

You have no idea – based on your comment, some of the directions I hope to take with future posts pertaining to the settlement of Pennsylvania, but that would be on Harry’s Blog, because it involves my new novel. The Scots-Irish in particular came to Pennsylvania by the thousands in the 1700s. They realized the Pennsylvania Germans, and others, had been devouring farm land for years. But in 1785 when those on board Faithful Steward came, they were headed west of the Susquehanna to secure “Tomahawk Claims.” More on that to follow on Harry’s Blog. So I’ll have to remember to focus on what is Indian Valley history, right here.
