Book Launch
“Growing Up in Telford and Souderton – Life in the Indian Valley”
September 12, 2025, my new novel, a memoir, became available for purchase on Amazon.com. Inspired by a huge membership in a Facebook Chat Group about local history and memories, I decided to assemble a collection of my own experiences while growing up in the Indian Valley. As the slogan on our Chamber of Commerce billboard displays – “It’s Where Character Counts.” As a reader, you will be treated to a collection of 44 chapters spanning 261 pages, depicting life as it was during the 1950s into the early 1960s in the twin towns in southeast Pennsylvania.

Book Reviews – What People are Saying
Lois Weisberg dedicates her time to reading books and writing informative reviews. And she posts her reviews on her blog – Lois Weisberg Book Reviews. This is what Lois had to say about my latest novel – those growing-up days. The memoir is my way of giving back to the community where I grew up. The Indian Valley gave much to me. https://loisweisbergbookreviews.wordpress.com/2025/10/27/growing-up-in-telford-and-souderton-life-in-the-indian-valley-by-harry-allen-wenzel/me.

Sindia was a four-mast steel hulled windjammer launched 1878 by Harland & Wolfe of Belfast, the same shipbuilder of Titanic and Commanded by Master Allan MacKenzie, a highlander raised in Scotland. The sailship, the largest of it’s kind in 1901, wrecked off the 16th Street beach, Ocean City NJ while returning from a round the world sail to Shanghai, China then Kobe, Japan enroute to New York on December 15, 1901 with no loss of life. The remains of the ship is actually buried beneath the sand on the 16th Street beach. Sindia is without a doubt – Ocean City’s Famous Shipwreck.

Sindia was carrying an assortment of cargo including many beautifully hand-painted housewares and novelty items including those pictured. The tin container, left side, was the captain’s humidor and he gifted it to a member of the Lake family, then a resident of Ocean City and family member of the Lake family who founded and developed Ocean City. Artifacts related to Sindia and more are on display at the Ocean City Historical Museum – 17th Sreet. and Simpson Ave.
