It was October 2017 and I decided to defer writing for six months. It took me two and three-quarter years to research and write the story of Sindia. During this time I searched for and evaluated my next topic – the theme of shipwrecks, based upon true events, was still in my blood. While picking up seafood at a store in Myrtle Beach, SC – I’m serious, I stumbled upon a very nice map, encased in plastic – Shipwrecks of the Mid-Atlantic Coast. I saw Sindia pinned on the map and there were many others. Upon looking south of Ocean City, NJ to coastal Delaware, I was drawn to Faithful Steward. Oh, I must have looked at this name multiple times and after passing over it, I kept returning. My curiosity persisted. There were many other names of wrecks, including the HMS De Braak that capsized near Cape Henlopen and is featured at the Zwaanendael Museum at Lewes, DE. Didn’t I mention on my Home page, I’m a believer in what’s in a name? There was something about the name Faithful Steward, and keep in mind, this ship was named in 1784. Many merchant ships leaving the port of Londonderry, at the time Ireland, were named after people, hence Jane, Betty, and so forth, but why Faithful Steward. I had to find out. I had no idea if there was a story to be found and one to be written in October 2017, but I found it. There is – so more than three years later the story of this ship and many passengers and their captain and crew is about to come to life. I’m excited.
